This article is a literature review systematizing current clinical criteria for assessing adaptive behavior in individuals with borderline intellectual functioning (BIF). The central thesis is that the key diagnostic marker of BIF is not so much IQ scores as deficits in the conceptual, social, and practical areas of everyday functioning.
